HB 5 Changes EOC Retake Schedule
Changes in state law recently signed by Governor Perry (HB 5) mean that RISD students are no longer required to retake previously-scheduled End of Course exams (EOCs) in English III Reading and Writing, Chemistry, Geometry, World Geography and World History. Only students who were unsuccessful on English I (Reading or Writing), English II (Reading or Writing), Algebra I, Biology or U.S. History EOCs should retake the exam in July.

This development has also changed the previously-published July schedule of EOC retake opportunities. The new schedule is:

Monday, July 8:   English I Writing
    U.S. History (online)
Tuesday, July 9:   English I Reading
Wednesday, July 10:   English II Writing
Thursday, July 11:   English II Reading
Friday, July 12:   Algebra I

If your student is not attending an EOC Summer Intervention Program they should pre-register using RPortal. Once logged in, click on the "July STAAR EOC Registration" link.

All EOC retake opportunities will be held at Richardson High School, 1250 Belt Line Rd. Students must arrive by 7:30am; testing will begin at 8:00 and students will not be admitted once testing has begun. Students should get a good night's sleep before each test date.

On the day of the test, be sure to bring three sharpened #2 pencils and a current school or state ID. Parents are encouraged to contact either Brandi Gipson at 469-593-3033 or Tanja Dutton at 469-593-8951 with questions. >Top

Judge Orders School Finance Case Reopened in January
State District Judge John Dietz has ordered the Texas school finance case reopened in January to hear new evidence about any implications the legislation passed in the 83rd Texas legislative session has on the court's earlier ruling. The legislature partially restored some of the $5.4 billion in funding cuts made to school districts in 2011, and also made changes to Texas law impacting testing and graduation requirements.

RISD is one of more than 600 Texas school districts that is a plaintiff in the case. Judge Dietz ruled in February that Texas provides inadequate and inequitable funding for schools.

The additional testimony is expected to begin on January 6, 2014. >Top
