New Stults Playground a Community Effort

Stults Road Elementary cut the ribbon last Friday for their new playground for PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) students. The playground was made possible through the hard work and dedication of the Stults Road staff, the PTA, the Lake Highlands Exchange Club, and Jessie Torres.

"Our staff and PTA worked tirelessly to raise money, but it wasn't enough," explained Principal Amber LeBlond." Brent Basden, one of the members of the Lake Highlands Exchange Club, saw an article in the paper and contacted me about applying for a grant through their organization. We never expected that we would receive this generous grant which covered the rest of the cost. We are so excited about what this playground means to our students."

The dedication contained bittersweet moments as the late Jessie Torres, a dedicated volunteer who raised funds for the playground, was remembered by PTA's Sherry Griffin. Jaylen Cook, a child who passed away while a student at Stults, was also remembered.
