Graduation!

More than 2000 seniors from all four RISD high schools crossed the stage June 7 & 8 to become members of the Class of 2015.

"We are exceptionally proud of these young ladies and men," said RISD Superintendent Dr. Kay Waggoner. "They have worked hard to earn this achievement and we look forward to the great things they will do. Congratulations to our Class of 2015, their parents, and the teachers and staff members who helped them on their journey."

Lehman Named Bukhair Principal

Misti Lehman has been named the next principal of Carolyn G. Bukhair Elementary.

Ms. Lehman has been the assistant principal at Bukhair since 2010. She has 15 years of experience in RISD and began her career as a classroom teacher before becoming an instructional specialist. She has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Oklahoma and earned a master's degree in Education Administration from Lamar University.

She has assumed her new duties.

Lawrence To Lead Special Student Services

Dr. Cindy Lawrence has been named RISD's new Executive Director of Special Student Services. She comes to RISD from Sherman ISD, where she has been Director of Special Education since 2006.

Dr. Lawrence holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University, a master's degree in Psychology from Texas Woman's University and also earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from TWU.

She has 22 years of experience, beginning her career as a special education teacher in RISD.

RISD's Special Student Services Department includes Special Education, Health Services, 504, RTI and Transition Services.

Fine Arts Coordinators Named

New Fine Arts Coordinators/Directors of Bands have been named for the Lake Highlands, Pearce and Richardson high school areas.

Mr. Phillip Alvarado is the new Fine Arts Coordinator/Director of Bands for the Lake Highlands H.S. area. Mr. Alvarado holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas and a master's degree in Music from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He comes to LHHS from Rowlett H.S. in Garland ISD, where he served as Director of Bands.

Mr. Dimitri Icossipentarhos is the new Fine Arts Coordinator/Director of Bands for the Pearce H.S. area. Mr. Icossipentarhos holds bachelor's of Music and master's of Music Education degrees from Texas Tech University. He comes to PHS from Hebron H.S. in Lewisville ISD, where he was Associate Director of Bands.

Mr. Jesus Marquez is the new Fine Arts Coordinator/Director of Bands for the Richardson H.S. area. Mr. Marquez holds a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Texas Christian University and a master's degree in Music from the University of Houston. He was named Interim Director of Bands/Fine Arts Coordinator at RHS last semester and was previously Associate Director of Bands at the school.

Coming Up

Reminder - Focus Coming in the Fall

RISD is in the process of implementing a new student information system called Focus for the 2015-16 school year. This extensive effort will impact parents who are accustomed to accessing their child's grade and attendance information through Star Portal, which will be discontinued and replaced by Focus to provide this function for parents.

Information about Focus account creation will be available to parents in the Fall.
