Graduating AVID Seniors Recognized
Each spring, RISD celebrates AVID senior graduation at a luncheon in their honor. This year's event recognized the 223 AVID seniors from RISD's four high schools, who have collectively earned more than $7.5 million in scholarship offers.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college-readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll and persist in postsecondary education. Although AVID serves all students, it focuses on under-served students in the academic middle.
More than 95% of AVID's 2016 seniors have gained acceptance to four year universities.
Texas History, Austin Style
Fourth grade students from several RISD schools have made the trip to Austin this month to learn more about Texas History and experience what they have been learning in the classroom. Students visited the Texas State Capitol and the Bullock Texas State History Museum as part of Education in Action's Discover Texas program.
