2014-15 STARS Teachers

Ten teachers were surprised in their classrooms this week with the news that they have been selected as RISD's STARS (Superior Teaching Achievement in RISD Schools) Teachers of the Year. The awards are administered by the Excellence in Education Foundation and winners are selected through a comprehensive process that begins with a school nomination and includes interviews and classroom observations. The ten STARS winners represent some of the finest educators in a district known for quality teachers.

A prize patrol, including Dr. Waggoner and members of the Excellence in Education Foundation board and selection committee, visited teachers in their classrooms with flowers, balloons and a check for $1,000. Special thanks to M&A Technology for being the primary sponsor of this year's awards.

Reminder - District To Request Waiver for Third Snow Day

Per the 2014-15 RISD Student Academic Calendar, the district will make up two snow days on Friday, April 3 and Friday, June 5. Both days were previously student holidays and will now be normal operating days.

RISD intends to request a waiver from the Texas Education Agency in order for students to not make up the third instructional day lost to inclement weather.
