Board Approves Construction at Prairie Creek
At its February 16 meeting, the RISD Board of Trustees approved the construction of six additional classrooms at Prairie Creek Elem. to accommodate current and projected student enrollment growth in the PCE attendance area.
"Our goal is to have the new classrooms ready in time for the first day of school in August of 2016," said RISD Deputy Superintendent Tony Harkleroad. "Prairie Creek staff and parents will be able to provide input regarding design decisions at different points in the process."
The construction will mark the twelfth RISD campus since 2012 to undergo construction of additional classrooms to increase enrollment capacity.
Northrich is Thinking Kind
Northrich Elem. has participated in the Think Kindness Challenge this school year along with eight other RISD schools. Part of the challenge involved collecting at least 1,000 pairs of gently used shoes for children who are less fortunate. NRE students did their part and the goal was surpassed, with more than 1,400 pairs of shoes collected to benefit the RISD Clothes Closet as well as children in other countries.

Student Art Accolades
Lake Highlands HS student Tyler Squires was one of just 18 high school artists from around the U.S. to have his work selected for a two-year display in the College Board offices in New York City. In addition, Tyler's photograph The Order of Life will also receive a $500 award.
Student artists from across RISD were recently recognized at the Districtwide K-12 Art Show at the Eisemann Center's Green Mezzanine-Gallery.
"More than 200 guests from our community were able to join students, art teachers, and parents to enjoy the show and meet our stellar student artists whose art was on display," said Director of Visual Arts K-12 Myron Stennett.
Legal Eagles At It Again
The three time state champion Richardson HS Mock Trial team has again qualified for the state competition and will be competing for top state honors in March in Dallas.
"We're very proud of our students," said RHS Principal Charles Bruner. "The Legal Eagles have a long tradition as one of the top programs in Texas. Congratulations and good luck to the students and teacher Ben Fiedler."
All State Performers
Seventeen RISD students were recently selected to participate in Texas Music Educators Association All-State performing groups. Based on a rigorous statewide audition process, the number of student musicians selected as All-State performers represents the top 0.5% of all of students participating in fine arts in Texas.

Richardson Medical Center
The safety of students and staff is the top priority when poor weather creates hazardous travel conditions.
In the event that travel conditions may require classes be delayed or cancelled, parents and employees will be notified directly by telephone message before 6:30 a.m. Parents are encouraged to ensure their child's campus has up-to-date contact information.
In addition, stakeholders can check the RISD homepage, the district Facebook page or the district Twitter feed. RISD also notifies local media outlets of closures or delays.
If unsure, parents, employees and students should assume a normal school day unless notified of a closure or delay by RISD. The District does not send a message verifying a normal operating day. Parents are encouraged to ensue their child's school has up-to-date telephone and email information.
