Board Discusses Classroom Construction at Prairie Creek
At its February 2 meeting, the Board of Trustees discussed a district recommendation that additional classrooms be constructed at Prairie Creek Elementary to accommodate student enrollment growth in the PCE attendance area. Based on current enrollment and future projections, Prairie Creek will need additional classroom space or temporary accommodations as soon as next school year. If construction moves forward, additional classrooms would be completed by the beginning of school in August, 2016.
To create more capacity in response to enrollment growth, RISD has built additional classrooms at 11 schools since the 2011-12 school year. The recommendation is expected to be brought back to the board for consideration at its February 16 Study Session.
Brentfield Celebrates Cultural Heritage
Parents and guests brought their favorite culinary dish from their cultural heritage, attended a PTA meeting and enjoyed live entertainment at the recent Brentfield PTA Multicultural Night. Thank you to attendees, PTA, and performers from USA Chin Woo Lion & Dragon Dance Team and the Martinez Ballet Folklorico Performance Group for helping to make the event a success.
The safety of students and staff is the top priority when poor weather creates hazardous travel conditions.
In the event that travel conditions may require classes be delayed or cancelled, parents and employees will be notified directly by telephone message before 6:30 a.m. Parents are encouraged to ensure their child's campus has up-to-date contact information.
In addition, stakeholders can check the RISD homepage, the district Facebook page or the district Twitter feed. RISD also notifies local media outlets of closures or delays.
If unsure, parents, employees and students should assume a normal school day unless notified of a closure or delay by RISD. The District does not send a message verifying a normal operating day. Parents are encouraged to ensue their child's school has up-to-date telephone and email information.
