Thanks so much for supporting Richardson ISD during the past school year. The district experienced a memorable year in many ways – national and state recognitions, a record five days of closed doors due to bad weather, a successful bond election and a historic state budget deficit. As you are aware, Gov. Perry called a special session that began yesterday because the regular session ended May 30 without a balanced budget and without agreement on a school finance bill. The district plans to recommend a 2011-12 budget based on a $20 million shortfall from the state. Please stay informed of any changes at the state level via the district's website.
My best wishes for a relaxing and enjoyable summer to everyone. RISD looks forward to greeting you in August!
All four RISD high schools made the list, including:
Richardson High School - #329 in U.S. Pearce High School - #337 in U.S. Berkner High School - #932 in U.S. Lake Highlands High School - #1355 in U.S.
According to the report, the rankings evaluate how well schools work to challenge students with advanced-placement college-level courses and tests. With more than 26,000 high schools in the United States, all four RISD high schools ranked among the top 5 percent in the country. This list is compiled annually by national education reporter Jay Mathews, and has been published in past years by Newsweek as America's Best High Schools.
