Partners Program LogoQuality Education is Everybody’s Business
The RISD Partners Program exists to nurture and encourage school and community spirit. The program was established to facilitate and recognize community and business support for individual schools and district programs. Partnerships are the way that businesses and community groups can establish an ongoing, supportive relationship with one or more RISD schools or programs through volunteerism, donated materials/ resources and financial support. Partnerships can also be established in support of specific programs and enrichment efforts at the district level.

It's no myth that quality schools are a sign of a strong community. And a strong community is often an indicator of a good school system. The communities of Richardson, Garland and north Dallas have a strong tradition of being closely involved in their schools.

In an era of increasing state and national academic accountability, along with continued fiscal constraints, partnerships have proven critical for schools and programs to continue to offer exceptional educational opportunities for all children.

What is the RISD Partners Program?
The RISD Partners Program serves as a way to match businesses or community groups with one or more RISD schools or programs to help bridge the gaps between un-meet or additional needs amongst students and campuses through:
  • Volunteerism
  • Donations
RISD has a strong commitment to the welfare and safety of students, staff and visitors at each campus. In order to advance this commitment, the Board of Trustees has adopted policies to ensure that prospective volunteers meet certain minimal qualifications. Under these policies, all persons who wish to volunteer in RISD in any capacity must complete an application authorizing the District to obtain criminal background information. The District obtains this information through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) through the vendor backgroundchecks.com. The online application is available here.

Specific opportunities may include:
  • Volunteerism: (Spending 30 to 45 minutes weekly or monthly working one-on-one with a student, group of students and/or campus staff)
    • Tutoring: Visits with a student will consist of working on courses proving difficult for the student.
    • Reading: Visits will consist of reading a book together or having the student practice reading to you.
    • Judging: Evaluating individual or districtwide competitions, potentially including student projects or performances. Examples include Science Fair, Invention Convention, Destination Imagination, Academic Decathlon and similar events. Judging generally offers a time commitment of 2-3 hours a day per event.
    • Mentor: Guide a student interested in your career and educate the student on the requirements to reach employment in your profession.
    • Bilingual Volunteers: Working with campus staff, bilingual volunteers can assist with parent and community projects and interaction.
    • Event Volunteering: Volunteering time at school-related or districtwide events, such as carnivals, holiday events, assemblies or fundraising events. Specific events will vary by school. The time commitment will vary from during the day to late afternoon or weekend commitments.

  • Donations: (Schools are frequently in need of equipment or materials for curriculum, enrichment projects, programs or events. Partners may be in a position to donate such equipment or materials as circumstances allow.)
    • School Supplies: Click here for a general supply list by grade levels. There are also annual needs for specific items such as binders needed in bulk quantities.
    • Sponsorship for field trips: Financial support for transportation, t-shirts or cost of venue entrance fees.
    • Financial Support: Donation to the general funds for a school's maintenance, beautification and/or curriculum.
    • Teacher Appreciation: Gift certificates, food or small trinkets.
Financial partners may experience more flexibility and tax advantages by working with RISD's Excellence in Education Foundation. Please visit risdfoundation.org for more information.

The Benefits of Being an RISD Partner
Becoming a school or district partner through the RISD Partners Program offers a number of benefits:
  • Partners are publicly recognized through a variety of methods by the school and district as a business or organization that has taken a leadership role in giving back to the community.
  • Long–term partners engender loyalty from the school and district community, often providing a competitive advantage for businesses.
  • Partnerships offer team–building opportunities for employees and/or members.
  • Partnerships offer opportunities for enhancing leadership skills of employees and/or members.
  • Individuals within the partnering business or organization are presented with a personal opportunity to touch the future while making a positive difference for the community and schools. The personal satisfaction that comes with helping children can provide a rewarding, fulfilling experience.
