Qualifications to run for school board
  • Applicant must be a US Citizen.
  • Applicant must be 18 years or older at the start date of the term of service.
  • Applicant must have lived in the state for a year and the District for 6 months prior to the filing deadline.
  • Applicant must be a registered voter at the time of the election.
  • Applicant must not have been adjudged mentally incapacitated.
  • Applicant must not have been finally convicted of a felony.
Process to run for school board
Application for a place on the ballot must be filed with the local Election Office by 5:00 pm on the deadline in the Elections Office at 400 S. Greenville Ave., as established by the Secretary of State.

The deadline to file for a place on the ballot in the general trustee election is generally the 78th day before the May uniform election date. The deadline to declare for a write-in candidate generally is five days after the regular filing deadline.

The deadline to file for a place on the ballot in a special election generally is the 61st day before the date of the special election.

February 17, 2017 Last day to file an application for a place on the ballot (5:00 pm) in the regular election (Place 6 and Place 7)

Last day to order a general election to be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017
February 21, 2017 5:00 pm deadline for write-in candidates to file Declarations of Write-In Candidacy in a regular election
February 22, 2017 First day that an election may be cancelled if all filing deadlines have passed and each candidate for an office listed on the ballot is unopposed
February 24, 2017 5:00 pm deadline for a candidate to withdraw, by submission of a Certificate of Withdrawal or a notarized letter.
February 27, 2017 10:00 drawing for ballot position for Place 6 and Place 7

March 6, 2017 Last day to file an application for a place on the ballot

Last day for a voter to make a change of address that will be effective for the election

Campaign Finance Report due for the period from date your campaign treasurer was appointed through March 27, 2017, unless candidate filed for modified reporting
April 6-26, 2017 Period during which notice of election must be published (Dalco does for all entities)
April 17, 2017 Last day to post notice of election on bulletin board used for posting notices of meetings
April 24, 2017 First day to vote early in person
April 28, 2017 Campaign Finance Report due for period March 28, 2017 – April 26, 2017, unless candidate filed for modified reporting or is unopposed
May 2, 2017 Last day to vote early by personal appearance
May 6, 2017 Election Day
May 9-17, 2017 Period during which to conduct official local canvass of returns once the ballot board has finished counting late ballots
May 30, 2017 First day to vote early in person for Runoff election, if necessary
June 5, 2017 Last day to file electronic precinct by precinct returns with the Secretary of State
June 6, 2017 Last day to vote early in person for Runoff election, if necessary
June 10, 2017 Runoff election date should a runoff be necessary
