Congratulation to the Berkner High School Mighty Ram Band for advancing to another appearance at the state 5A marching band finals this month.

Berkner finished ninth in Texas in the competition, another outstanding year.

Prestonwood Panthers turned into turkeys before Thanksgiving! All students participated in 1st annual Turkey Trot and 2nd annual Canned Food Drive to benefit the Network of Community Ministries.

The initial goal of 1,000 cans was quickly surpassed and more than 2,000 total cans were collected. Parents also brought canned food as an "entry fee" to join the race. Students, parents, and teachers trotted ½ mile through the Prestonwood Neighborhood. The students and parents raised 2,250 pounds of food to help hungry families in Richardson.

Thank you to first grade teacher Ms. MacHendrie for organizing both events and all the staff and parents, who participated.

The Richardson High School swimming team recently conducted a fund raising event through Swim Across America, which is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming - related events.

Through their event, RHSwim Breaststroke For a Cure, swimmers collected pledges, donations and raised more than $3,800 for their chosen recipient, the Baylor Cancer Center.

Lake Highlands High School senior Sango Demunga is one of just ten national finalists in Dr. Pepper's $100,000 Tuition Giveaway. Sango's family fled violence in Congo eight years ago and she has been part of the RISD family since 2009.
