Two of the district's 10 2011 STARS Teachers were selected to represent RISD in the Region 10 Teacher of the Year awards competition over the summer. Congratulations to Alicia Arruda of Thurgood Marshall, RISD Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Joan Swim of Berkner High School, RISD Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations to Kim Sullivan, Principal at Lake Highlands Elementary, and Ron Griffen, Principal at Berkner High School! At the Excellence in Education Foundation Breakfast last month, Ms. Sullivan was named RISD Elementary Principal of the Year and Mr. Griffen was named RISD Secondary Principal of the Year.

In addition to providing scholarships and grants for RISD teachers, programs and schools the RISD Excellence in Education Foundation recognizes the outstanding administrators who contribute to the district's success. >Top

The Hero Within You
As Northlake Elementary kicked off "The Hero Within You" theme for 2011-12, staff and students chose to honor U.S. Army Sgt. Hudson as NLE's first Hero of the Year. Sgt. Hudson is the son of NLE librarian Cathryn Bolen. Deployed for the past year, the staff and students raised funds for care packages for his unit. A schoolwide celebration was recently held to welcome him back home. >Top

Arapaho Classical Magnet Fuels Up to Play 60
RISD's Arapaho Classical Magnet will receive $3,000 through a Fuel Up To Play 60 grant program, sponsored by Dairy Max and the National Football League.

ACM was one of seven schools in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area to receive the fall grant. The grant is used to implement healthy eating and fitness programs in schools.

Dallas Cup Art Contest Winners for 2012 Calendar

Congratulations to the following students from Richardson ISD for being selected for the 2012 Dallas is Diversity Calendar:

Art Teacher: Beth Grant-Field

Jenna Caire - Richardson High School
Art Teacher: Sonia Krusleski

Each teacher mentioned above will receive a $200 check to be used for art supplies. The presentation of scholarships and checks will be presented on April 6, 2012 on Dallas is Diversity night during Dr Pepper Dallas Cup XXXIII tournament April 1-8, 2012.
In addition, Jenna Caire was selected for the $500 Dallas is Diversity scholarship.

PACE Plus Registration
The PACE after school program is expanding to be offered during 14 student holidays this school year and will be called PACE Plus.

The first day of PACE Plus will be offered on Monday, October 10, 2011 – RISD's State Fair Day. The program will run from 7:30a.m.-6:00p.m. for a fee of $30 a day for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

The deadline to register is has been extended through Thursday, September 29, 2011.

RHS Eaglettes Announce Spirit Girl and Outstanding Girl

Each week during football season, the Eaglette Dance Officers choose one team member as the "Outstanding Girl," and the Eaglette Social Officers choose one team member as "Spirit Girl." The honorees are chosen for their hard work and positive attitude during the week's practices and are announced at the beginning of the game's halftime show. >Top
