Smiles, photos, heat and a few tears (mostly from parents) marked the beginning of RISD’s 2010-2011 academic year on Monday. The district welcomed back more than 34,000 students, and 232 new teachers began their tenure in the RISD family. Overall, the first day went smoothly, and another successful year of achievement and learning in RISD has begun! >Top

STULTS ROAD NAMED FINALIST FOR NATIONAL TITLE I DISTINGUISHED STATUS
Stults Road Elementary has been named by the Texas Education Agency as one of just six schools in Texas eligible to be considered for nomination as a 2010 National Title I Distinguished School. This achievement places SRE among the top six Title I schools in Texas in terms of student performance, including commended rates. The National Title I Distinguished School recognition program honors schools across the United States for their innovation in helping Title I populations achieve high educational standards.

Stults Road Elementary will be visited in September by state officials to help determine if they will be one of the two Texas nominations of Commissioner of Education Robert Scott to the National Association of State Title I Directors. The two nominated schools from Texas may then be named National Title I Award winners in January, 2011.

Congratulations to Stults Road Elementary staff, students, parents, community and principal Darwin Spiller! >Top
