BOARD ANNOUNCES INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT
The Richardson Independent School District Board of Trustees named Deputy Superintendent Patti Kieker interim superintendent Monday night after Superintendent Jim Nelson tendered his expected resignation effective July 31.

“Mrs. Kieker will provide the continuity of leadership needed for RISD to stay on its path of excellence,” said Board President Luke Davis.

“Under Jim’s guidance, the district has experienced significant gains in several areas of student achievement.  Although we are sad to see him go, we are excited about the impact he’s made and are looking forward to continued progress for all our students.  We have complete confidence in senior district administrators, campus teachers and staff to remain focused during this transition,” he added.

In related action, the Board contracted with nationally respected educational executive search firm Harold Webb Associates to conduct the search for the district’s next superintendent.

Headquartered in Austin, Harold Webb Associates is led by Dr. Nolan Estes, former Associate United States Commissioner of Education and General Superintendent of Schools in Dallas.  This firm has conducted superintendent searches for nearly 30 years, including school districts in Dallas, Beaumont,  San Antonio, Round Rock,  and Temple, and nationally for Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma, Falls Church City Public Schools in Virginia and Gulfport Public Schools in Mississippi.

The Board will work with the search firm initially to develop a profile for the superintendent position and a timeline for the search.  The process will include gathering staff, stakeholder and community input, and then moving forward to identify and interview qualified candidates.

The process will culminate with the naming of a lone finalist and negotiation of a contract for the new superintendent, who will be officially hired after the required 21-day public notice.

“The Board understands that RISD staff and community members want to have a new superintendent as soon as possible, but we also know the high expectations we have in place,” said Mr. Davis.  “We are committed to being thorough and deliberate as we search for the right superintendent for RISD.”
