LHFC AVID CLASS WELCOMES VISITOR
Congressman Jeb Hensarling from the 5th District of Texas spoke to the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students at Lake Highlands Freshman Center in December. He spoke briefly about his personal determination to succeed and then allowed the students to ask questions. The students had done research at his congressional Web site and were knowledgeable about his position on the issues. They asked a variety of questions ranging from his personal quest for the congressional seat to his position on aid to Katrina victims. One component of the AVID curriculum is the utilization of guest speakers to broaden the knowledge of students about the variety of careers available to them upon graduation from college. >Top
