GRADUATION PROGRAM OPTIONS
To accommodate the diversity of educational goals of its students, and provide them an opportunity to pursue a more rigorous course of study, the district offers the graduation programs described below.

PLAN I AND PLAN II-RECOMMENDED PROGRAMS
Plan I and Plan II-Recommended Programs are designed to prepare students for academically outstanding colleges. These plans include a specific core of required courses that provides a well-balanced, rigorous academic program with elective course options. The Elective Courses Component selections will be made by the student based upon individual needs, interests, and/or aptitudes. No course substitutions are allowed in the Plan I and Plan II- Recommended Programs.

* All Plan I and Plan II-Recommended Program graduates will also receive the state’s Recommended Program graduation seal. Plan I graduates will have completed all “course requirements” for the state’s Distinguished Achievement Program seal (see RISD Secondary Program of Studies for additional DAP criteria).

RISD GRADUATES MUST COMPLETE PLAN I OR PLAN II-RECOMMENDED PROGRAM IN 2004-05 AND THEREAFTER
Each student entering the ninth grade in the 2004-05 school year and thereafter, enrolls in the courses necessary to complete the curriculum requirements identified by the State Board for the Plan I and Plan II-Recommended Program Seal unless the student, the student’s parent/guardian, and the student’s counselor (or principal’s designee) agree that the student should be permitted to complete the Plan II-Regular Program (TEC 28.025[b]).

PLAN II-REGULAR PROGRAM
The Plan II-Regular Program offers students a rigorous academic program with more flexibility to prepare themselves for their future study and career goals. The plan, which emphasizes high-tech training, includes a core of required courses that provide students a well-balanced, rigorous academic program with some choice in content areas. The Elective Courses Component selections will be made by the student based upon individual needs, interests, and/or aptitudes. The Plan II Seal will be affixed to the student’s Academic Achievement Record (AAR) upon graduation.
