Meal Offerings and Definition of Reimbursable Meals

All menus offered in the cafeteria are planned by registered dietitians and meet the nutritional guidelines set forth by the United States and Texas Departments of Agriculture.  When a student consumes a complete breakfast, he or she receives ¼ of the daily Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) for the student’s age.  Consuming a complete lunch ensures that the student receives 1/3 of the daily RDA’s for the student’s age.

RISD has a three-week cycle menu that is individualized for elementary, junior high and high school students. The menus are printed annually and are available at each campus, from the Child Nutrition office,  or here.

Elementary and junior high schools will have two or three entrée choices and five side choices daily.  High schools will have two or three entrée choices and six side choices daily.  All schools will offer flavored and unflavored low-fat milk as a beverage option.

School Breakfast
School breakfast consists of a choice of milk, a choice of juice/fruit and a choice of a breakfast item.  Students do not have to take all three items and do not have to take milk.  Students may choose two or three items from the menu to pay the breakfast price or receive meal benefits.  Students who choose only one item or who choose two items from the same category (i.e. juice/fruit) will be charged a la carte prices.

School Lunch
An elementary lunch consists of a choice of entrée, choice of two side dishes and choice of milk.  Students do not have to take all four items and do not have to take milk.  Students may choose an entrée and one to three other items (i.e. milk, fruit, vegetable) to pay the lunch price or receive meal benefits.  Students who do not choose an entrée or who choose more than four total items will be charged a la carte prices.

A secondary lunch consists of a choice of entrée, choice of three side dishes and choice of milk.  Students do not have to take all five items and do not have to take milk.  Student may choose an entrée and two to four other items (i.e. milk, fruit, vegetable) to pay the lunch price or receive meal benefits.  Students who do not choose an entrée or who choose more than five total items will be charged a la carte prices.
