Scholarships

The scholarship process requires time, work, and dedication on the part of students and their parents as well as school personnel. Many times those who are the most organized and the most diligent with the application process are the ones who receive scholarships! Students and/or parents have the responsibility for:
  • Investigating scholarships via printed books/publications in the student's guidance office. You may freely access the scholarship files in the guidance counseling office and bulletin board displays.
  • Reading the Counselor Newsletters carefully and saving them for references for scholarship deadlines.
  • Noting deadlines, procedures and qualifications if applicable. When the applications complete, review it with the guidance counselor before mailing. Applications should be mailed at least one week before the scholarship deadline.
  • Investigating possible scholarship opportunities available via parents' employment, the college or university the student will attend, community organizations, and other sources.

Searching for a Scholarship
Here are some tips that may help in the scholarship search:

  1. Fill out the FAFSA as early as possible. Look for forms in the counselor's office.
Check with parent's employer to see if there are any scholarships available for the daughters or sons of employees.
  2. Check with your employer to see if scholarships are available.
  3. Check availability of scholarships of a religious organization.
  4. If your parents are members of any organizations check to see if they offer scholarships.
  5. Every scholarship that is sent to the guidance office is filed in a specific place. Check the office at least once a week.
  6. The guidance office also has books which list available scholarships. Look through these books before or after school.
  7. Check with the financial aid office at the school you will attend to see what scholarships they may have.
  8. There are computers in the library and the guidance office that have programs which can help you search for scholarships. Ask for assistance with this search.
  9. Surf the Internet. Here are a few sites that may be of interest:
