How to Report Bullying

Procedures for Reporting Allegations of Bullying
The Richardson Independent School District (RISD or the District) prohibits bullying on school property, at school-sponsored or school-related activities, or in any vehicle operated by the District.   Bullying will not be tolerated.  Texas law defines bullying as:

Engaging in written or verbal expression, expression through electronic means, or physical conduct that occurs on school property, at a school-sponsored or school-related activity, or in a vehicle operated by the District and that:

  1. Has the effect or will have the effect of physically harming a student, damaging a student’s property, or placing a student in reasonable fear of harm to the student’s person or of damage to the student’s property; or
  2. Is sufficiently severe, persistent, and pervasive enough that the action or threat creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for a student.

The conduct is considered bullying if it:

  1. Exploits an imbalance of power between the student perpetrator and the student victim through written or verbal expression or physical conduct; and
  2. Interferes with a student’s education or substantially disrupts the operation of a school.

Note: Conduct that may not constitute bullying as defined above still may violate expected student standards of conduct and may subject the actor to disciplinary measures.

Any student or parent/guardian of a student who believes that a student has experienced bullying or that a student has engaged in bullying is encouraged to immediately report the incident.  RISD will not retaliate against anyone who makes a good faith report of bullying or otherwise is involved in the complaint process. Reports of alleged bullying may be made to a principal, teacher, counselor, or other District administrator. Reports may be orally or in writing.  A report form is available from the campus or by clicking here.

More information about RISD’s freedom from bullying policy can be found here and also is available at your student’s campus.
