Richardson High School and the Richardson Rotary have teamed up in an effort to introduce service organizations to RHS students. Under the Interact program, more than 300 seniors at RHS have formed their own version of the Rotary Club, and engage in service projects to help the school and community.
In September, the Richardson Rotary held their meeting at Richardson High School and presented information to students regarding what Rotary is all about, including examples of Rotary projects.
"The participation in this program is off the charts," said RHS Assistant Principal Debbie Deaton. "More than half of our entire senior class is involved. It really allows students to learn the value of donating their time to help others."
Among other projects, RHS Interact students have sorted and distributed hurricane relief supplies to the recently-enrolled RHS students from the Gulf Coast region, and landscaped yards of area senior citizens.
"This program is an excellent example of a community-school partnership that benefits everyone," said RISD District Community Liaison Lani Caffey. "RISD has partnership opportunities available at virtually every one of our 55 campuses. We encourage any business or community group who may have an interest in partnering with a school to contact the district or visit our Website for additional information."
