Applications Being Taken For Mayor's Summer Internship Program
The deadline to apply for the third Richardson Mayor’s Summer Internship Program is Saturday, February 29. The paid internships are open to qualified juniors who attend RISD schools or live in Richardson.

Modeled after the prestigious White House Fellows, the RMSIP is open to juniors who carry a GPA of at least a 2.5 and are eligible to work in the U.S. The program runs between June 1 and Aug. 7, as students are immersed in a professional environment at an area corporation, nonprofit or government entity. Interns work between 20 and 40 hours a week for eight weeks, earning at least $10 an hour. Last year, more than three dozen RISD students participated in the program.

Census 2020 Is Coming
The U.S. Constitution mandates a national census every 10 years. Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities, as well as how many seats in Congress each state gets, so your participation is vital.

Weather Notifications - Can RISD Reach You?
If inclement weather causes RISD to cancel or delay school, parents and staff will be notified directly by telephone, email and text message. In order to reach parents, schools must have accurate contact information. If parents have changed their phone number or email address since enrolling their child, they should provide updated contact information to the school front office.

One recommended action from RISD’s 2017-18 strategic plan includes the district evaluating the possibility of moving sixth grade students to junior high campuses as part of a middle school model. That evaluation is beginning with the formation of a grade configuration committee.

Facilities Assessment Identifies Aging District Infrastructure
Almost 60% of the schools and facilities in Richardson ISD are more than 50 years old, and another one-quarter were built over 25 years ago, according to a presentation made to the RISD Board of Trustees in September, 2019.

The facilities audit is one data point that RISD administrators and Trustees will consider as they prepare to look at infrastructure needs that may be included in the next bond package.
