National Principals Month
Through visionary leadership and tireless pursuit of success for each student, principals guide and support their schools in ways large and small every day. And as we faced new challenges presented by COVID-19, our principals came through when it mattered most. National Principals Month is our way of honoring their dedication and thanking them for all they’ve done. #ThankAPrincipal

Student Services is excited about bringing you Live Wise Live Healthy-September Community Engagement Series.
We invite you to join us for the Community Engagement Series “SAFE! Issues Affecting Today’s Youth and How You Can Help” presented by the Grant Halliburton Foundation.

Vanita is a frequent speaker on youth mental health and suicide prevention in schools, at professional conferences, and throughout the community. She speaks from the heart about her son’s battle with depression and bipolar disorder, his suicide at the age of 19, and the need for a collaborative and comprehensive approach to suicide prevention in our community. We hope you join us in this important work of keeping our students SAFE!

Face To Face Start Dates

Superintendent’s Update – September 24

Click here to watch the superintendent’s update. Dr. Stone talks about the fourth and final first day of school for 2020-21 and the upcoming window for parents to change their instructional choice, if desired. Other highlights include:

  • Many high school students returned to face to face instruction this week.
  • The universal mask requirement is for everyone. Social distancing is for everyone.
  • Whether our schools are able to stay open for face to face instruction depends directly on whether people not only follow health and distancing protocols while in school but also that students and adults make those same good choices when outside of school.
  • RISD is going to be consistent and relentless with risk mitigation protocols.
  • The window to change a student's instructional model to in-person from virtual or vice versa is from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. Information about this process is available from each school.
  • Parents and staff members affected by any positive case in a school are contacted directly and immediately by RISD Health Services.
  • General notifications related to positive cases are sent on Tuesdays and Fridays to all parents and employees at campuses where a new positive COVID case has occurred.
  • Parents and employees can see the most up to date dated case information for their school at any time by visiting the RISD COVID-19 Notification Portal.
  • Please complete the Census at 2020census.gov and ensure your family is counted.
  • All parents of students PK-12 are encouraged to complete a brief online student health screener each school day.
  •
Dr. Stone has provided weekly updates throughout the pandemic. Previous messages can be found here.

Census Deadline Moved Up To September 30
Richardson ISD is providing information to educate, encourage and engage our school community about the 2020 Census, and we encourage your participation.

The Census Bureau has moved up the deadline to complete the Census to September 30. RISD will keep its Census website up through the extension.

The Census has only 10 questions and is available in 13 languages other than English. And, for the first time, you can respond by mail, phone or online. By responding to the 2020 Census now, you will have done your part to ensure your community gets its fair share of federal funding and representation in Congress.

Find out more at RISD's Census 2020 website

A/B Calendar Available
Under the Blueprint, one of the changes for the 2020-21 school year includes all students in grades 7-12 following an A or B block schedule each day, with days alternating throughout the instructional year. Class periods have been extended to 90 minutes, and students will have half their classes on A days and the other half of their classes on B days, alternating each day. The RISD Student Academic Calendar has been updated to note each instructional day as an A or B day. Early in the week of August 17, schools will inform parents when specific schedules for each student are available.
